Jim James Ovia was born on November 4, 1951, in Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria. He is currently 74 years old.
He hails from a very large family, his father, Obi Olihe, was a respected chief in the Agbor-Obi kingdom, in Delta State.

Jim Ovia attended Ika Grammar School, Bojiboji-Owa for his secondary education.
