Tems Biography

Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage as Tems, was born to a Nigerian mother and a British father on July 11, 1995, in Lagos. She’s currently 30 years old. Her mother lost her father when she was five years old, making her mother the only person left to raise her.

Before enrolling at Dowen College in Lekki, she finished primary school in Lagos. She then moved to Johannesburg and enrolled in an Economics program at a South African institution. Tems was raised in a humble home and discovered her singing talent after signing up for a local chorus.

She started out as a talented musician when she was young. She recorded songs with the school chorus while improving her skills on her brother’s guitar. According to a documentary with MU Narratives, she remembered how her music teacher encouraged her to sing with her natural voice when she doubted her potential.
